A prosthodontist is a specialist recognized by the Dental Association; which requires a minimum of three years of intensive training and research, in addition to the doctoral degree in dentistry.

Prosthodontics is both an art and a science. It requires the doctor to envision replacement teeth for each individual's needs. Prosthodontics is unique because it involves both careful patient treatment and highly technical and exacting laboratory skills needed to create esthetically-pleasing tooth restorations.

The practice of prosthodontics means the replacement of decayed and/or missing teeth with healthy, secure prosthetic teeth that often function better than natural ones.
